Why might I need to engage a private tutor?
Are all sessions 1:1?
1:1 sessions – are offered where the child has the undivided attention of the tutor. These address the individual needs of the learner and teaching is personalised for children according to requirement, pace and capability.
11+ Sessions – these are offered in small groups of up to eight and are for children who are coping well at school and so don’t need the tutor’s sole attention.
Where does the tutoring take place?
All tutoring takes place in the The Oreston Centre, Oreston Plymouth – PL9 7LL.
Is parking available?
How much is tutoring?
1:1 sessions – charged at £30 per hour to include all prior planning and teaching materials. Sessions can be paid weekly or monthly in advance.
11+ Sessions – charged at £24 for 75 minutes. The syllabus is delivered over three school terms. Payments are spread across 11 months at £82.90 per month, payable in advance.

Do I have to pay for missed sessions?
11+ Sessions – arrangements can sometimes be made for a child to join an alternative group in the course of the week. Missed sessions are not refunded.
Are discounts offered for multiple family members or cash?
Will my child have homework?
1:1 – homework can be set if this is something you would like but there are no consequences for tasks that are not completed.
11+ – expect between 1-2 hours of homework each week to enable children to practice skills taught and to practice timed writing/reading/maths tasks as well as 11+ style papers. Again there are no consequences; if your child is motivated to pass the 11+ they will complete the tasks.
What happens if I want to stop private tutoring?
11+ Sessions – a pupil can leave the course at any point. However, refunds will not be given for sessions remaining in any given calendar month. All future monthly payments must be quickly cancelled by the payee to avoid over-payment and the need to arrange a refund.

Lesson Structure and Content
single-gender groups ensure that each child receives the individual attention and support that they need. Lessons focus on Maths and English with regular ‘Make it Real’ questions from past papers featuring in weekly sessions. Children are also tutored in exam techniques, allowing them to become familiar with the expectation of the examinations. Tuition is designed to build knowledge, skills and confidence.
Homework
This is set each week and a commitment to it by children and their parents is an important aspect of 11+ preparation.
Fees
Fees for 1:1 for the new academic year are £30 per session.
11 Plus Sessions are charged at £24 each across the 39 week programme of study. Tuition fees are paid by direct debit at £82.90 per month for 11 months and covers the majority of tuition material.
Discounts are not available for cash payments or multiple children from the same family. Mrs B-R’s Tutor Station is a small limited company liable for corporation tax and income tax on earnings.
